Meet Cathy Wade

8752370_orig Nothing is so amazing as the quality, look and feel of vintage fabrics. I’ve always loved anything vintage. My entire life I’ve been sewing and creating my own look from old clothes. Over 30 years ago in college I fell in love with cashmere sweaters. So soft, so warm! I loved them until they were threadbare in spots but even then I couldn’t give them up. I’m a creative fashion-forward kind of girl, so of course I thought “What could I do with these wonderful sweaters?” I took some scissors and thread, cutting up the sweaters and stitching together my very first recycled cashmere scarf.

My friends raved about how soft and elegant my scarves were. Well, it didn’t take a genius to realize my creative flair and love for recycled old fabrics were becoming a hit.

Since then I’ve made it my mission to seek out the old, forgotten, unappreciated fabrics we all love: cashmere, lace, heavy cottons from the 60s and 70s, Spring Mills, Indian Head, Peter Pan, Wamsutta Mills, seersucker, dotted swiss, hopsacking, broadcloth and so much more! Then I give them new life in artistic pencil skirts, scarfs, blankets and more.

156390The result is a unique one-of-a-kind fashion statement that’s trendy but fun – truly wearable art!

My most popular works are my quirky skirts which can include house prints sprinkled with barkcloth, dotted swiss, broadcloth and hopsacking. Don’t know what all these terms mean? That’s no problem. All you need to know is I live and breathe these vintage discontinued fabrics and no matter what, you’ll never find anything like what I design at a shopping mall.

Be unique and keep it quirky!
